Narrative:

En route to iah at FL280, cleared for daisetta arrival. Next controller cleared us direct daisetta, daisetta 9 arrival and cross at 10,000 at 250 KTS. Next controller cleared us to 240 and keep speed up above 310 KTS for traffic. Since already cleared the daisetta arrival, I interpreted this clearance as if he wanted us out of 280 and overlooking the fact we had been cleared the das arrival and requested to keep speed up for traffic. Also at 60 mi out, that is a good descent point to cross das by 10,000/250 KTS, which further led me to believe he overlooked our previous clearance. At approximately 22,000 controller asked us to level off at 220 and that we were only cleared to 240. Told him we had been cleared das arrival and to cross at 10,000/200. He said we had misunderstood clearance from previous controller. However, it was 2 previous controllers that issued the clearance.

Title: FLT CREW OF MLG WAS CLEARED DAS X AT 10,000'. NEXT CTLR CLEARED THE FLT TO FL280 KEEP SPEED UP. FLT CREW CONTINUED DESCENT PER FIRST CLRNC.

Narrative: ENRTE TO IAH AT FL280, CLRED FOR DAISETTA ARR. NEXT CTLR CLRED US DIRECT DAISETTA, DAISETTA 9 ARR AND CROSS AT 10,000 AT 250 KTS. NEXT CTLR CLRED US TO 240 AND KEEP SPEED UP ABOVE 310 KTS FOR TFC. SINCE ALREADY CLRED THE DAISETTA ARR, I INTERPRETED THIS CLRNC AS IF HE WANTED US OUT OF 280 AND OVERLOOKING THE FACT WE HAD BEEN CLRED THE DAS ARR AND REQUESTED TO KEEP SPEED UP FOR TFC. ALSO AT 60 MI OUT, THAT IS A GOOD DSCNT POINT TO CROSS DAS BY 10,000/250 KTS, WHICH FURTHER LED ME TO BELIEVE HE OVERLOOKED OUR PREVIOUS CLRNC. AT APPROX 22,000 CTLR ASKED US TO LEVEL OFF AT 220 AND THAT WE WERE ONLY CLRED TO 240. TOLD HIM WE HAD BEEN CLRED DAS ARR AND TO CROSS AT 10,000/200. HE SAID WE HAD MISUNDERSTOOD CLRNC FROM PREVIOUS CTLR. HOWEVER, IT WAS 2 PREVIOUS CTLRS THAT ISSUED THE CLRNC.
