Narrative:
Parking area extremely congested. Followed taxi-in signals provided by personnel provided by the company tasked with ramp control and services. Due to confined nature of ramp, tail of aircraft pointed at aircraft on gate while being directed to parking spot. Crew of aircraft at gate expressed concern over the safety of the situation, even though all turns were done at idle power. Ramp personnel taxi aircraft rather than tow due to availability of ground equipment. Suggest gates should taxi nose in and push back out.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: LGT MOVING INTO PARKING AREA ON CROWDED RAMP ALLEGEDLY ENDANGERED A PARKED MLG WHEN TAIL OF LGT WAS POINTED TOWARD THE MLG.
Narrative: PARKING AREA EXTREMELY CONGESTED. FOLLOWED TAXI-IN SIGNALS PROVIDED BY PERSONNEL PROVIDED BY THE COMPANY TASKED WITH RAMP CTL AND SVCS. DUE TO CONFINED NATURE OF RAMP, TAIL OF ACFT POINTED AT ACFT ON GATE WHILE BEING DIRECTED TO PARKING SPOT. CREW OF ACFT AT GATE EXPRESSED CONCERN OVER THE SAFETY OF THE SITUATION, EVEN THOUGH ALL TURNS WERE DONE AT IDLE PWR. RAMP PERSONNEL TAXI ACFT RATHER THAN TOW DUE TO AVAILABILITY OF GND EQUIP. SUGGEST GATES SHOULD TAXI NOSE IN AND PUSH BACK OUT.
