Narrative:

I was flying the lead aircraft and my wing man was on the right side. We both were in contact with kent state university airport unicom, as well as each other. We extended our downwind, at pattern altitude, for runway 19 to allow a slower moving aircraft to land. When we turned final, it had not cleared the runway completely. I elected to go around prior to extending the gear. We climbed straight ahead to 2000' (pattern altitude) and made a left turn downwind leg to 19. Since there was no other traffic in the pattern, I called for a 360 degree turn overhead approach with a 3 second interval for the wing man. Unicom was informed and acknowledged. The approach and lndgs were uneventful. After landing, we were informed that someone, not a pilot, had called complaining of the noise and that we were flying too low over their house. I know of no FAA regulation that was broken; however, the FAA was notified and I received a letter that their information indicated that I operated an aircraft in a reckless manner and caused danger to persons and property on the ground. In conclusion, I can only state that the university is primarily a training field for small single engine aircraft. Thus, when a flight of 2 aircraft passes overhead, it must have been annoying, but in no way endangering persons or property.

Title: 2 SMA ACFT PERFORM FORMATION FLT IN TRAFFIC PATTERN AT SMALL UNCONTROLLED ARPT AND MAKE MILITARY TYPE FORMATION APCH AND LNDG. ARPT LOCATED IN BUILT-UP AREA.

Narrative: I WAS FLYING THE LEAD ACFT AND MY WING MAN WAS ON THE RIGHT SIDE. WE BOTH WERE IN CONTACT WITH KENT STATE UNIVERSITY ARPT UNICOM, AS WELL AS EACH OTHER. WE EXTENDED OUR DOWNWIND, AT PATTERN ALT, FOR RWY 19 TO ALLOW A SLOWER MOVING ACFT TO LAND. WHEN WE TURNED FINAL, IT HAD NOT CLRED THE RWY COMPLETELY. I ELECTED TO GO AROUND PRIOR TO EXTENDING THE GEAR. WE CLBED STRAIGHT AHEAD TO 2000' (PATTERN ALT) AND MADE A LEFT TURN DOWNWIND LEG TO 19. SINCE THERE WAS NO OTHER TFC IN THE PATTERN, I CALLED FOR A 360 DEG TURN OVERHEAD APCH WITH A 3 SECOND INTERVAL FOR THE WING MAN. UNICOM WAS INFORMED AND ACKNOWLEDGED. THE APCH AND LNDGS WERE UNEVENTFUL. AFTER LNDG, WE WERE INFORMED THAT SOMEONE, NOT A PLT, HAD CALLED COMPLAINING OF THE NOISE AND THAT WE WERE FLYING TOO LOW OVER THEIR HOUSE. I KNOW OF NO FAA REG THAT WAS BROKEN; HOWEVER, THE FAA WAS NOTIFIED AND I RECEIVED A LETTER THAT THEIR INFO INDICATED THAT I OPERATED AN ACFT IN A RECKLESS MANNER AND CAUSED DANGER TO PERSONS AND PROPERTY ON THE GND. IN CONCLUSION, I CAN ONLY STATE THAT THE UNIVERSITY IS PRIMARILY A TRNING FIELD FOR SMALL SINGLE ENG ACFT. THUS, WHEN A FLT OF 2 ACFT PASSES OVERHEAD, IT MUST HAVE BEEN ANNOYING, BUT IN NO WAY ENDANGERING PERSONS OR PROPERTY.
