Narrative:
I was on an IFR flight at 11,000 from ffm to lse. ZMP had handed me off to msp approach, and I had been on approach on 120.0 for about 15 mins, although I don't recall any conversations with approach since initial contact, I was listening to their conversations with other aircraft. My clearance was V-2 through the terminal area. As the DME showed me getting past the msp terminal area and I hadn't yet been handed back to center, I called approach to see if they had forgotten me. There was no answer. After a couple of calls, I decided I had been forgotten and was out of range, so I called ZMP on the lacrosse-area frequency from the en route chart. I got an immediate acknowledgement, and then told center that I was calling without benefit of a handoff and asked him to let approach know. In a minute, center called and told me I had 'flown through a major metropolitan area' and that 'a number of aircraft had had to be vectored out of my way'. I replied that I had been continuously listening to my last assigned approach frequency of 120.0 without any hint of trouble, and that I had called center the instant I switched off approach frequency. There was no further comment. This event remains a mystery to me. The only possible explanation I have is that approach may have called me while I was listening to ATIS (and concurrently monitoring approach) and didn't notice that I didn't acknowledge. That still wouldn't explain, however, why, it they considered me to be a problem, they didn't call back.

Title: SMA TWIN FLYING IFR THROUGH MSP AIRSPACE HAS APPARENT LOSS OF COM WITH MSP APCH.
Narrative: I WAS ON AN IFR FLT AT 11,000 FROM FFM TO LSE. ZMP HAD HANDED ME OFF TO MSP APCH, AND I HAD BEEN ON APCH ON 120.0 FOR ABOUT 15 MINS, ALTHOUGH I DON'T RECALL ANY CONVERSATIONS WITH APCH SINCE INITIAL CONTACT, I WAS LISTENING TO THEIR CONVERSATIONS WITH OTHER ACFT. MY CLRNC WAS V-2 THROUGH THE TERMINAL AREA. AS THE DME SHOWED ME GETTING PAST THE MSP TERMINAL AREA AND I HADN'T YET BEEN HANDED BACK TO CENTER, I CALLED APCH TO SEE IF THEY HAD FORGOTTEN ME. THERE WAS NO ANSWER. AFTER A COUPLE OF CALLS, I DECIDED I HAD BEEN FORGOTTEN AND WAS OUT OF RANGE, SO I CALLED ZMP ON THE LACROSSE-AREA FREQ FROM THE ENRTE CHART. I GOT AN IMMEDIATE ACKNOWLEDGEMENT, AND THEN TOLD CENTER THAT I WAS CALLING WITHOUT BENEFIT OF A HANDOFF AND ASKED HIM TO LET APCH KNOW. IN A MINUTE, CENTER CALLED AND TOLD ME I HAD 'FLOWN THROUGH A MAJOR METROPOLITAN AREA' AND THAT 'A NUMBER OF ACFT HAD HAD TO BE VECTORED OUT OF MY WAY'. I REPLIED THAT I HAD BEEN CONTINUOUSLY LISTENING TO MY LAST ASSIGNED APCH FREQ OF 120.0 WITHOUT ANY HINT OF TROUBLE, AND THAT I HAD CALLED CENTER THE INSTANT I SWITCHED OFF APCH FREQ. THERE WAS NO FURTHER COMMENT. THIS EVENT REMAINS A MYSTERY TO ME. THE ONLY POSSIBLE EXPLANATION I HAVE IS THAT APCH MAY HAVE CALLED ME WHILE I WAS LISTENING TO ATIS (AND CONCURRENTLY MONITORING APCH) AND DIDN'T NOTICE THAT I DIDN'T ACKNOWLEDGE. THAT STILL WOULDN'T EXPLAIN, HOWEVER, WHY, IT THEY CONSIDERED ME TO BE A PROBLEM, THEY DIDN'T CALL BACK.
