Narrative:
We were on a 6 mile final and cleared for a visual approach 1L by approach control. We did not receive a frequency change from approach control for the tower; therefore we did not receive and respond to a clearance to land. On landing; we rolled out to an intersection for 1L and 25L; where it is 'typically' a left turn off for taxi. We did not hear the instructions to turn left onto 25L and held our position on runway 1L until we were cleared to taxi onto runway 25L. When the first officer switched the radio frequency and inquired about the taxi instructions; we were back on the initial mke approach frequency. This caused confusion and an approximant 30 second delay clearing runway 1L; causing a previously cleared airline flight behind us to be instructed to go-around. Once establishing communication with ground control; we were instructed to taxi to our base via 25L and the ramp. We taxied to the ramp. We were instructed by ground control to call the tower via a telephone line. I placed the call 6 minutes later and talked to the tower operator. His concern was why we stopped on the runway. I explained that we had not heard the tower instructions and held our position until we had been cleared to turn off 1L and onto runway 25L. This was due to a failure to switch to the tower frequency for a landing; therefore we missed the instructions to exit the active runway and cause a go-around for the landing traffic.
