Narrative:

On an IFR flight from lewisburg, wv to atlanta, GA, I received a climb limit to 12000' for traffic in the opp direction. Shortly after ward I called the traffic in sight, and asked about a climb clearance to higher altitude. Then I was advised that my altitude showed 300' higher than cleared. I was then handed off to the next controller at FL170. This controller informed me that I was 300' altitude off and also asked to stop mode C. Prior to conclusion of flight, mode C was tested and showed correct.
