Narrative:
I was cleared for takeoff on runway 32L when I was on taxiway parallel. I made the turn at T1 and was going to continue onto runway and make a rolling takeoff. I looked to the left and saw large transport Y approaching with all lights on. I thought he had landed on 27L and was turning up 32L to turn back on the 27L parallel, but I initiated a stop because I was surprised to see him there. At that time the tower told me to hold my position, to my amazement, large transport Y continued past and executed a takeoff. The tower then said 'now, you're cleared for takeoff', and followed with 'I hope we didn't scare you too much with that one.' I can only guess that large transport Y was cleared for a full-length takeoff by the controller on the south field frequency. At the same time I was cleared by the north controller on his frequency for takeoff from T1 intersection.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR LGT X CLEARED FOR TKOF FROM T1 ON RWY 32L AT ORD, HAS CONFLICT WITH LGT Y ALSO CLEARED FOR TKOF ON SAME RWY.
Narrative: I WAS CLRED FOR TKOF ON RWY 32L WHEN I WAS ON TXWY PARALLEL. I MADE THE TURN AT T1 AND WAS GOING TO CONTINUE ONTO RWY AND MAKE A ROLLING TKOF. I LOOKED TO THE LEFT AND SAW LGT Y APCHING WITH ALL LIGHTS ON. I THOUGHT HE HAD LANDED ON 27L AND WAS TURNING UP 32L TO TURN BACK ON THE 27L PARALLEL, BUT I INITIATED A STOP BECAUSE I WAS SURPRISED TO SEE HIM THERE. AT THAT TIME THE TWR TOLD ME TO HOLD MY POSITION, TO MY AMAZEMENT, LGT Y CONTINUED PAST AND EXECUTED A TKOF. THE TWR THEN SAID 'NOW, YOU'RE CLRED FOR TKOF', AND FOLLOWED WITH 'I HOPE WE DIDN'T SCARE YOU TOO MUCH WITH THAT ONE.' I CAN ONLY GUESS THAT LGT Y WAS CLRED FOR A FULL-LENGTH TKOF BY THE CTLR ON THE SOUTH FIELD FREQ. AT THE SAME TIME I WAS CLRED BY THE NORTH CTLR ON HIS FREQ FOR TKOF FROM T1 INTXN.
