Narrative:

On right downwind to runway 8R den, while level at 11000' MSL observed a twin engine business jet at 1:30, approximately level 1/4 NM away and closing from right to left, as ATC simultaneously called the traffic. Descended 250' as the other aircraft passed in front and above our aircraft. Talked to approach controller after blocking-in and learned other aircraft was at 11100' MSL, but was only cleared to 12000' MSL. Upon deplaning one passenger asked, 'how close was that other airplane?' I was 50' low on altitude and correcting back to altitude precisely as the encounter took place! Being precisely at 11000' MSL on the altimeter would not have mattered had a midair occurred. Watch out!

Title: NMAC BETWEEN ACR MLG AND OTHER ACFT OPERATING AT WRONG ALT IN TCA.

Narrative: ON RIGHT DOWNWIND TO RWY 8R DEN, WHILE LEVEL AT 11000' MSL OBSERVED A TWIN ENG BUSINESS JET AT 1:30, APPROX LEVEL 1/4 NM AWAY AND CLOSING FROM RIGHT TO LEFT, AS ATC SIMULTANEOUSLY CALLED THE TFC. DSNDED 250' AS THE OTHER ACFT PASSED IN FRONT AND ABOVE OUR ACFT. TALKED TO APCH CTLR AFTER BLOCKING-IN AND LEARNED OTHER ACFT WAS AT 11100' MSL, BUT WAS ONLY CLRED TO 12000' MSL. UPON DEPLANING ONE PAX ASKED, 'HOW CLOSE WAS THAT OTHER AIRPLANE?' I WAS 50' LOW ON ALT AND CORRECTING BACK TO ALT PRECISELY AS THE ENCOUNTER TOOK PLACE!
