Narrative:
Small transport X was cleared for an ILS runway 31 approach 6 mi southeast. Small transport Y was being vectored for the ILS 8 sse of the airport behind small transport X. When small transport Y was given a vector for the left downwind for the ILS, he came within 3 mi of small transport X who was presently 6 mi on final on the localizer at 3500' MSL. Small transport Y at the same moment was instructed by the approach controller to descend out of 4500' MSL to 3500' MSL -- so they were also less than a thousand feet. Small transport Y was issued a heading away from small transport X which they pass each other by 2 mi. No traffic information issued at all.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: APCH CTLR VECTORING AN SMT FOR APCH TO RWY 8 HAD LESS THAN STANDARD SEPARATION WITH ANOTHER SMT ON THE ILS FOR RWY 31.
Narrative: SMT X WAS CLRED FOR AN ILS RWY 31 APCH 6 MI SE. SMT Y WAS BEING VECTORED FOR THE ILS 8 SSE OF THE ARPT BEHIND SMT X. WHEN SMT Y WAS GIVEN A VECTOR FOR THE LEFT DOWNWIND FOR THE ILS, HE CAME WITHIN 3 MI OF SMT X WHO WAS PRESENTLY 6 MI ON FINAL ON THE LOC AT 3500' MSL. SMT Y AT THE SAME MOMENT WAS INSTRUCTED BY THE APCH CTLR TO DSND OUT OF 4500' MSL TO 3500' MSL -- SO THEY WERE ALSO LESS THAN A THOUSAND FEET. SMT Y WAS ISSUED A HDG AWAY FROM SMT X WHICH THEY PASS EACH OTHER BY 2 MI. NO TFC INFO ISSUED AT ALL.
