Narrative:

Once we took off and were departing the area I pulled cabin heat and we instantly smelled smoke of what smelled to be rubber burning. We immediately turned back to the airport and informed ATC of the situation. Fire trucks were brought out and inspected us on the runway. They reported nothing and we taxied back and shut down. Upon inspection the alternator belt was completely frayed and a maintenance mechanic stated that the alternator was seized.
