Narrative:
Climbing out; crew encountered engine roughness on initial climb followed by cht (cylinder head temperature) of cylinder #2 climbing into the caution (yellow) range; at this time instructor took corrective action by lowering the nose of the aircraft to increase airflow to the engine but it did not suffice. Cht kept increasing past 435 degrees and the instructor decided to return back to [the departure airport]. [Center] immediately responded by issuing a new clearance direct to [departure airport] and the instructor landed the aircraft with no further complications.
