Narrative:

Approach in use RNAV-GPS 35L; reporter acting as non-flying instructor for instrument training flight; dwh runway 35L closed due to standing water from recent heavy rains; runway lighting at airport believed to be inop due to recent heavy rains. Intention was to side step to runway 35R approximately 100 yards to parallel runway 35R which was open. Reminded student that 35R was the runway in use and observed him to move toward the final for 35R. Then turned attention to other matters and did not notice student lined up for and landed on taxiway foxtrot which runs the entire length of runway 35R between 35L and 35R. Foxtrot is a bright; light colored concrete and runway 35R is a dark brown pavement; difficult to see in dim light created near sunset time and overcast skies. Student turned off the taxiway onto runway 35R; thinking he was exiting the runway. Believe we were too far from the tower in dim light and without functional airport lights for tower personnel to see what had happened. Were instructed to roll out on 35R to the end and contact ground. Complied.there was no other traffic active on the surface of the airport; so no conflicts were created. Situation obviously caused by poor light; but visibility was easily good enough to have avoided it. Both pilots were experienced and with considerable experience operating from this particular airport.
