Narrative:
We were holding at eugen intersection (as published) on the hadley 1 arrival to sfo. The first officer was flying. On our initial outbnd heading I remarked to the first officer that it appeared that we would need to correct more to the west on account of the wind. He acknowledged with a 'yeah, yeah,' and made some slight corrections. As we turned to our inbound we went through the 309 degree right. A little while later oak asked us to next time hold on the bsr 308 degree right and not the pye 144 degree right. I advised that we were using the bsr 309 degree right and had not made enough wind correction. On our second outbnd leg I told the first officer that we should start out with at least a 15 degree correction. Oak later commented that the pattern looked good and I advised we were holding approximately 1 40 degree correction at that time. The first officer (ex-military) was fairly new to the seat and he gave me the impression that suggestions bugged him. After our conversation with oak his altitude seemed to have changed somewhat. In retrospect, I should have stated the degree of correction needed on our initial outbnd leg.

Title: FO FLYING ACR LGT IN HOLDING PATTERN ON SFO HADLEY 1 ARR FAILS TO GIVE ENOUGH WIND CORRECTION DESPITE THE CAPT'S REPEATED SUGGESTION FOR A HEADING MODIFICATION.
Narrative: WE WERE HOLDING AT EUGEN INTXN (AS PUBLISHED) ON THE HADLEY 1 ARR TO SFO. THE F/O WAS FLYING. ON OUR INITIAL OUTBND HDG I REMARKED TO THE F/O THAT IT APPEARED THAT WE WOULD NEED TO CORRECT MORE TO THE W ON ACCOUNT OF THE WIND. HE ACKNOWLEDGED WITH A 'YEAH, YEAH,' AND MADE SOME SLIGHT CORRECTIONS. AS WE TURNED TO OUR INBND WE WENT THROUGH THE 309 DEG R. A LITTLE WHILE LATER OAK ASKED US TO NEXT TIME HOLD ON THE BSR 308 DEG R AND NOT THE PYE 144 DEG R. I ADVISED THAT WE WERE USING THE BSR 309 DEG R AND HAD NOT MADE ENOUGH WIND CORRECTION. ON OUR SECOND OUTBND LEG I TOLD THE F/O THAT WE SHOULD START OUT WITH AT LEAST A 15 DEG CORRECTION. OAK LATER COMMENTED THAT THE PATTERN LOOKED GOOD AND I ADVISED WE WERE HOLDING APPROX 1 40 DEG CORRECTION AT THAT TIME. THE F/O (EX-MIL) WAS FAIRLY NEW TO THE SEAT AND HE GAVE ME THE IMPRESSION THAT SUGGESTIONS BUGGED HIM. AFTER OUR CONVERSATION WITH OAK HIS ALT SEEMED TO HAVE CHANGED SOMEWHAT. IN RETROSPECT, I SHOULD HAVE STATED THE DEGREE OF CORRECTION NEEDED ON OUR INITIAL OUTBND LEG.
