Narrative:

Over scurry we were switched to regional approach control, checked in on frequency and an acknowledgement received. We understood the controller to say there were txwys closed on various areas of the airport and wanted to switch us to runway 13R, to turn to a heading of 030 degree and descend to 7000' which we did. This to me seemed like an odd clearance to dfw from our direction. I asked the controller to verify our heading. He said we were on the wrong frequency and switched us to the proper sector frequency. We proceeded to dfw and landed. The problem obviously arose by us being given the wrong frequency, and things, as usual, got worse with us winding up on a wrong heading and altitude. Not listening clearly to call signs on both our part and the controller's was a major factor. The old adage of proper annunciation and close monitoring of the frequency for call signs and readbacks is certainly borne out in this incident, and cannot be overemphasized. It has made me much more aware of how serious a problem improper communications can cause.

Title: LGT FLT CREW ON ARR HANDOFF GIVEN WRONG FREQ. NOT CAUGHT ON INITIAL CALL UP. CREW QUESTIONED CLRNC.

Narrative: OVER SCURRY WE WERE SWITCHED TO REGIONAL APCH CTL, CHECKED IN ON FREQ AND AN ACKNOWLEDGEMENT RECEIVED. WE UNDERSTOOD THE CTLR TO SAY THERE WERE TXWYS CLOSED ON VARIOUS AREAS OF THE ARPT AND WANTED TO SWITCH US TO RWY 13R, TO TURN TO A HDG OF 030 DEG AND DSND TO 7000' WHICH WE DID. THIS TO ME SEEMED LIKE AN ODD CLRNC TO DFW FROM OUR DIRECTION. I ASKED THE CTLR TO VERIFY OUR HDG. HE SAID WE WERE ON THE WRONG FREQ AND SWITCHED US TO THE PROPER SECTOR FREQ. WE PROCEEDED TO DFW AND LANDED. THE PROBLEM OBVIOUSLY AROSE BY US BEING GIVEN THE WRONG FREQ, AND THINGS, AS USUAL, GOT WORSE WITH US WINDING UP ON A WRONG HDG AND ALT. NOT LISTENING CLEARLY TO CALL SIGNS ON BOTH OUR PART AND THE CTLR'S WAS A MAJOR FACTOR. THE OLD ADAGE OF PROPER ANNUNCIATION AND CLOSE MONITORING OF THE FREQ FOR CALL SIGNS AND READBACKS IS CERTAINLY BORNE OUT IN THIS INCIDENT, AND CANNOT BE OVEREMPHASIZED. IT HAS MADE ME MUCH MORE AWARE OF HOW SERIOUS A PROBLEM IMPROPER COMS CAN CAUSE.
