Narrative:

My student and I were doing practice approaches into hot springs; ar. We were inbound on the VOR 05; at the FAF; when we heard aircraft Y make an inbound call. The call stated that aircraft Y was on a '6 mile final for 5; descending out of 3;000 feet'. I looked at our DME and saw we were also at the same location at 2;500 feet. I made a call informing the other traffic of our location when our traffic alert went off. The symbol was on top of ours at a 0 feet altitude difference. I immediately took the controls from my student and started a right hand dive. I then noticed that the traffic alert showed the aircraft -200 feet below us and descending. At the same time the aircraft made a call that he was passing 100 feet under us. I continued the right hand break off; but elected to level off as the radio transmission matched what the box was showing me.the inbound traffic made no radio calls up to the point of the near midair call. We had made numerous radio calls during our multiple approaches.locals and I have been complaining about the need of an ATC tower at hot springs. I have been in numerous close calls over the years as well as other local pilots. I am surprised a midair has not happened with the number of close calls. The traffic is both transit and local training; as the airfield has the nearest VOR and ILS around. The airfield has a tower built; but it has been unmanned for decades. I highly recommend an ATC tower. It's becoming unsafe to the public.
