Narrative:

When we arrived to the plane and went through the maintenance logs we found that idg 1 (integrated drive generator) was inoperative so read that the APU and associated generator needed to be serviced and the APU oil needed to be visually inspected by maintenance. Looking through our maintenance log we saw the aircraft had just diverted for an APU oil message. Maintenance cleared the write up and logged that they visually inspected the APU and its oil system. Since these items were cleared we continued with the flight. All operations were normal until we reached cruise and the APU oil message [illuminated]. We ran the QRH which ended with a diversion. Contacted ATC and advised them of the situation and sent an ACARS message to dispatch explaining our situation and they advised us to return to [departure airport]. The captain and I agreed [that] was the best option so we coordinated with ATC for an air return. The rest of the flight went as normal and had a maintenance supervisor meet us at our gate to debrief the event.
