Narrative:
After takeoff from runway 10, tower/approach questioned me about whether or not I was aware of SIGMET E-1, forecasting possible moderate to severe icing en route, and also about SIGMET E-2. SIGMET E-1 had expired at xx:00 local time, no mention was made to me about E-2 by the lansing FSS briefer. Tower/approach later said E-2 did not apply to my route of flight. On climb out I picked up light rime ice from 3500'-4500', but it melted off at 5000' as temperature was 38F . No deice activities were needed. No further icing was encountered en route to marquette, mi. On return to home base I checked into the regulations further pertaining to icing. I found that the small transport is not approved for flight into any type of icing as it is equipped. It has boots on wings and tail surfaces with alcohol anti-icing on windshield propellers. This fact made my whole trip that day illegal, even though no icing other than light rime, for about 1 min, climbing out of lansing was encountered. The aircraft is not equipped for flight into forcast light/moderate icing conditions as equipped. I will not use this aircraft for any further flts with any icing in the forcasts. This situation makes this aircraft unusable for 90 percent of our flts in the period from oct - may in the great lakes area.

Title: FLT INTO FORECAST ICING CONDITIONS CONDUCTED IN SMT NOT APPROVED FOR FLT INTO KNOWN ICING.
Narrative: AFTER TKOF FROM RWY 10, TWR/APCH QUESTIONED ME ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT I WAS AWARE OF SIGMET E-1, FORECASTING POSSIBLE MODERATE TO SEVERE ICING ENRTE, AND ALSO ABOUT SIGMET E-2. SIGMET E-1 HAD EXPIRED AT XX:00 LCL TIME, NO MENTION WAS MADE TO ME ABOUT E-2 BY THE LANSING FSS BRIEFER. TWR/APCH LATER SAID E-2 DID NOT APPLY TO MY RTE OF FLT. ON CLBOUT I PICKED UP LIGHT RIME ICE FROM 3500'-4500', BUT IT MELTED OFF AT 5000' AS TEMP WAS 38F . NO DEICE ACTIVITIES WERE NEEDED. NO FURTHER ICING WAS ENCOUNTERED ENRTE TO MARQUETTE, MI. ON RETURN TO HOME BASE I CHKED INTO THE REGS FURTHER PERTAINING TO ICING. I FOUND THAT THE SMT IS NOT APPROVED FOR FLT INTO ANY TYPE OF ICING AS IT IS EQUIPPED. IT HAS BOOTS ON WINGS AND TAIL SURFACES WITH ALCOHOL ANTI-ICING ON WINDSHIELD PROPS. THIS FACT MADE MY WHOLE TRIP THAT DAY ILLEGAL, EVEN THOUGH NO ICING OTHER THAN LIGHT RIME, FOR ABOUT 1 MIN, CLBING OUT OF LANSING WAS ENCOUNTERED. THE ACFT IS NOT EQUIPPED FOR FLT INTO FORCAST LIGHT/MODERATE ICING CONDITIONS AS EQUIPPED. I WILL NOT USE THIS ACFT FOR ANY FURTHER FLTS WITH ANY ICING IN THE FORCASTS. THIS SITUATION MAKES THIS ACFT UNUSABLE FOR 90 PERCENT OF OUR FLTS IN THE PERIOD FROM OCT - MAY IN THE GREAT LAKES AREA.
