Narrative:

High xwinds prevented the use of the 'normal' runway. Quick reference to airport chart showed a 5100' runway oriented into a 20-30 KT headwind. My aircraft was relatively light at 100000#. Landing length chart showed distance was adequate. I landed uneventfully and taxied in. Later I noticed the runway was limited to aircraft weighing less than 50000 pounds and only 4500' was available for landing. I screwed up, but feel that the tower controllers could have offered some help in alleviating the possibly dangerous situation.
