Narrative:
Recently, company policy on issuance of chart revisions was changed. Previously, revisions were placed in crew mailboxes which enabled the crew member to post revisions regardless of whether the chief pilot was there. This policy now requires the crew members to obtain their revisions from the chief pilot's office, which is normally open 8-4, m-f. As crew members report for duty at all hours and weekends, access to the revisions is sometimes postponed until we can get to the chief pilot's office. This, due to company pressure, places the crew member in a dilemma. Do we press on and fly with current charts? Company says we are legal but far 135 is clear on this - we can't fly west/O current charts. On this day, the captain had revisions through #7, and myself, the first officer through #6. #8 was the newest revision. As the chief pilot's office was closed when we duty-in, we were unable to obtain our revisions. We proceeded on the scheduled flight but were apprehensive because WX was still around our destination, along with mountainous terrain (avl). The company can resolve this problem by returning to the previous policy of issuing revisions. That way crews can obtain their revisions at all hours of the day and not have to wait for the opportunity to contact the chief pilot's office. Safety is the issue here. For the passenger as well as the crew.

Title: REPORTER PROTESTS COMPANY POLICY OF KEEPING CHART REVISIONS IN CHIEF PLT'S OFFICE WHICH IS LOCKED AFTER NORMAL WORK HOURS.
Narrative: RECENTLY, COMPANY POLICY ON ISSUANCE OF CHART REVISIONS WAS CHANGED. PREVIOUSLY, REVISIONS WERE PLACED IN CREW MAILBOXES WHICH ENABLED THE CREW MEMBER TO POST REVISIONS REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THE CHIEF PLT WAS THERE. THIS POLICY NOW REQUIRES THE CREW MEMBERS TO OBTAIN THEIR REVISIONS FROM THE CHIEF PLT'S OFFICE, WHICH IS NORMALLY OPEN 8-4, M-F. AS CREW MEMBERS RPT FOR DUTY AT ALL HRS AND WEEKENDS, ACCESS TO THE REVISIONS IS SOMETIMES POSTPONED UNTIL WE CAN GET TO THE CHIEF PLT'S OFFICE. THIS, DUE TO COMPANY PRESSURE, PLACES THE CREW MEMBER IN A DILEMMA. DO WE PRESS ON AND FLY WITH CURRENT CHARTS? COMPANY SAYS WE ARE LEGAL BUT FAR 135 IS CLR ON THIS - WE CAN'T FLY W/O CURRENT CHARTS. ON THIS DAY, THE CAPT HAD REVISIONS THROUGH #7, AND MYSELF, THE F/O THROUGH #6. #8 WAS THE NEWEST REVISION. AS THE CHIEF PLT'S OFFICE WAS CLOSED WHEN WE DUTY-IN, WE WERE UNABLE TO OBTAIN OUR REVISIONS. WE PROCEEDED ON THE SCHEDULED FLT BUT WERE APPREHENSIVE BECAUSE WX WAS STILL AROUND OUR DEST, ALONG WITH MOUNTAINOUS TERRAIN (AVL). THE COMPANY CAN RESOLVE THIS PROB BY RETURNING TO THE PREVIOUS POLICY OF ISSUING REVISIONS. THAT WAY CREWS CAN OBTAIN THEIR REVISIONS AT ALL HRS OF THE DAY AND NOT HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO CONTACT THE CHIEF PLT'S OFFICE. SAFETY IS THE ISSUE HERE. FOR THE PAX AS WELL AS THE CREW.
