Narrative:
Student was performing a soft field landing with minimal help from the instructor. The instructor informed the student that he was 5 knots slow and that he should correct for it. Student reacted by pulling power to idle at 40 feet and flaring. The plane got extremely slow and started to descend fast. The instructor at that point tried to correct the student by applying power and initiating a go around. The plane at that point was about to touch the ground. The student pulled the yoke back causing the plane to smack into the ground [with] the tail hitting first. The bottom portion of the tail was scraped a bit.a go-around should have been initiated when there wasn't a stabilized approach.
