Narrative:
We had severe turbulence during the landing approach in iad. I was in my jumpseat with the seat belt on but had to remove my shoulder harness and assume a brace position because the plane was being tossed so badly and the shoulder harness of my seat belt was hurting me. I probably would have ended up with broken collar bones if I didn't take my shoulder harness off. Our jumpseats don't have enough cushion to absorb the impact of that kind of force! The plane was taken out of service and we (the crew) were pretty shaken up. The captain said it was the worst he had ever experienced.
