Narrative:
Ord departure told us they were not receiving our transponder so we switched to #2 transponder. We were shortly thereafter told that they were receiving our transponder. We were assigned a heading of 070 degree and an altitude of 13000' which we were maintaining. Then we were given a heading of 060 degree. We did not receive any other instructions. The captain and myself began to discuss the possibility that departure control had forgotten us, about that time they switched us to ord. When we called ord they asked for out altitude and position. We were 35 mi west of keeler. He asked us to identify. We did. He said he was not receiving our transponder. We switched transponders and idented again. About 15 mi from keeler we were cleared to climb to FL290. Center said they were receiving our transponder ok. Before switching us to the next controller the controller asked what our last assigned heading was while we were with departure control. We told him 060 degree. We later checked both transponders with the center. They said both were normal. We got a phone call from our company asking us about a transponder problem. The company said they had received a call from ord about 2 'close calls' involving our flight out of chicago. We had not been informed of any close calls by center during the flight, nor did we see any other act close to us during the flight.

Title: CLAIMED LOSS OF SEPARATION FOR ACR MLG DEPARTING ORD.
Narrative: ORD DEP TOLD US THEY WERE NOT RECEIVING OUR TRANSPONDER SO WE SWITCHED TO #2 TRANSPONDER. WE WERE SHORTLY THEREAFTER TOLD THAT THEY WERE RECEIVING OUR TRANSPONDER. WE WERE ASSIGNED A HDG OF 070 DEG AND AN ALT OF 13000' WHICH WE WERE MAINTAINING. THEN WE WERE GIVEN A HDG OF 060 DEG. WE DID NOT RECEIVE ANY OTHER INSTRUCTIONS. THE CAPT AND MYSELF BEGAN TO DISCUSS THE POSSIBILITY THAT DEP CTL HAD FORGOTTEN US, ABOUT THAT TIME THEY SWITCHED US TO ORD. WHEN WE CALLED ORD THEY ASKED FOR OUT ALT AND POS. WE WERE 35 MI W OF KEELER. HE ASKED US TO IDENT. WE DID. HE SAID HE WAS NOT RECEIVING OUR TRANSPONDER. WE SWITCHED TRANSPONDERS AND IDENTED AGAIN. ABOUT 15 MI FROM KEELER WE WERE CLRED TO CLB TO FL290. CENTER SAID THEY WERE RECEIVING OUR TRANSPONDER OK. BEFORE SWITCHING US TO THE NEXT CTLR THE CTLR ASKED WHAT OUR LAST ASSIGNED HDG WAS WHILE WE WERE WITH DEP CTL. WE TOLD HIM 060 DEG. WE LATER CHKED BOTH TRANSPONDERS WITH THE CENTER. THEY SAID BOTH WERE NORMAL. WE GOT A PHONE CALL FROM OUR COMPANY ASKING US ABOUT A TRANSPONDER PROB. THE COMPANY SAID THEY HAD RECEIVED A CALL FROM ORD ABOUT 2 'CLOSE CALLS' INVOLVING OUR FLT OUT OF CHICAGO. WE HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF ANY CLOSE CALLS BY CENTER DURING THE FLT, NOR DID WE SEE ANY OTHER ACT CLOSE TO US DURING THE FLT.
