Narrative:
Arriving at the aircraft X; ECAM fuel idg 2 cool fault was displayed. Notified [maintenance]. The mechanic's first attempt to fix the write up was a circuit breaker reset. The second attempt was a centralized fault display system (cfds) reset.the third attempt was to power down the entire airplane and turn it back on again. The fourth attempt was to start engine number 2 at the gate with passengers on board.none of those were successful. More importantly; that particular ECAM is only applicable to [certain aircraft]. We were in [aircraft X ECAM not applicable].1.make sure we have procedures that reflect reality. 2.train mechanics to not make up their own reset procedures in order to get an on time departure.
