Narrative:
I was invited by a friend to go for a ride in his homebuilt experimental aircraft. This aircraft is an open cockpit, open cabin machine. The aircraft had a tandem seat confign. There were only flight controls in the front seat and not the back. I was a little reluctant to fly at first because of the lack of flight controls in the rear seat. My friend took off from scd heading north toward the childerburg/desoto caverns area to go sightseeing. The only problem was he only climbed to 300' AGL. I was not able to talk to him because of the wind and engine noise. Later we landed back at the airport. After landing he said that was his first landing in well over 90 days, but said that he was legal because I was a current pilot. I thought no, we were not legal, because he was PIC, not me--and besides, his flying technique was not at all as I would have flown. Additionally I had no flight controls and could not communicate with him.
