Narrative:

Performing multiple approachs working with bos approach and lwm tower, at lwm on an IFR flight plan. In the process of shooting ILS runway 5 approachs, lwm tower was using opp runway 23, so we were told to report to tower at OM, as well as 2 mi out on final and on the missed. During the approach, inside the OM, while coaching student and giving him the best possible instruction, I failed to report 2 mi out. Tower was upset because of traffic taking off on 23, opp runway. There was no immediate traffic conflict that I was aware of; however, I feel it's important to note the importance of giving proper instruction while at the same time looking and responding to tower reporting points. #1: this was an IFR training flight, filed IFR with priority traffic resolution. We were IFR. We also explained to approach that this was an IFR training flight. I cannot stress the importance of quality and scrutiny that INS students need while under the hood doing ILS approachs. Cfii's do not always have the time to look for traffic while watching the INS, interpreting them and correcting and teaching students how to do it the correct way. It's tough enough west/O having to adhere to multiple reporting points. OM is understandable as is reporting the missed, but having to report 2 and 3 mi out on every approach clogs the instrs time, especially if the student is using the radio. Either the tower should not allow these approachs while traffic is using opp runway, or plan it so (ILS) inbound traffic doesn't have to spend all its time reporting points inbound! As a result, student missed out on key points that I couldn't bring up because I was too busy looking and reporting traffic, and ultimately ended up missing a 2 mi reporting point inbound. You tell me what's right and what's wrong here. I'm interested in finding out the correct solution.

Title: GA INSTRUCTOR PLT FAILS TO MAKE REQUESTED POSITION REPORT TO TWR WHILE GIVING INS TRAINING.

Narrative: PERFORMING MULTIPLE APCHS WORKING WITH BOS APCH AND LWM TWR, AT LWM ON AN IFR FLT PLAN. IN THE PROCESS OF SHOOTING ILS RWY 5 APCHS, LWM TWR WAS USING OPP RWY 23, SO WE WERE TOLD TO RPT TO TWR AT OM, AS WELL AS 2 MI OUT ON FINAL AND ON THE MISSED. DURING THE APCH, INSIDE THE OM, WHILE COACHING STUDENT AND GIVING HIM THE BEST POSSIBLE INSTRUCTION, I FAILED TO RPT 2 MI OUT. TWR WAS UPSET BECAUSE OF TFC TAKING OFF ON 23, OPP RWY. THERE WAS NO IMMEDIATE TFC CONFLICT THAT I WAS AWARE OF; HOWEVER, I FEEL IT'S IMPORTANT TO NOTE THE IMPORTANCE OF GIVING PROPER INSTRUCTION WHILE AT THE SAME TIME LOOKING AND RESPONDING TO TWR RPTING POINTS. #1: THIS WAS AN IFR TRNING FLT, FILED IFR WITH PRIORITY TFC RESOLUTION. WE WERE IFR. WE ALSO EXPLAINED TO APCH THAT THIS WAS AN IFR TRNING FLT. I CANNOT STRESS THE IMPORTANCE OF QUALITY AND SCRUTINY THAT INS STUDENTS NEED WHILE UNDER THE HOOD DOING ILS APCHS. CFII'S DO NOT ALWAYS HAVE THE TIME TO LOOK FOR TFC WHILE WATCHING THE INS, INTERPRETING THEM AND CORRECTING AND TEACHING STUDENTS HOW TO DO IT THE CORRECT WAY. IT'S TOUGH ENOUGH W/O HAVING TO ADHERE TO MULTIPLE RPTING POINTS. OM IS UNDERSTANDABLE AS IS RPTING THE MISSED, BUT HAVING TO RPT 2 AND 3 MI OUT ON EVERY APCH CLOGS THE INSTRS TIME, ESPECIALLY IF THE STUDENT IS USING THE RADIO. EITHER THE TWR SHOULD NOT ALLOW THESE APCHS WHILE TFC IS USING OPP RWY, OR PLAN IT SO (ILS) INBND TFC DOESN'T HAVE TO SPEND ALL ITS TIME RPTING POINTS INBND! AS A RESULT, STUDENT MISSED OUT ON KEY POINTS THAT I COULDN'T BRING UP BECAUSE I WAS TOO BUSY LOOKING AND RPTING TFC, AND ULTIMATELY ENDED UP MISSING A 2 MI RPTING POINT INBND. YOU TELL ME WHAT'S RIGHT AND WHAT'S WRONG HERE. I'M INTERESTED IN FINDING OUT THE CORRECT SOLUTION.
