Narrative:

Takeoff normal, no problems. At 1000 ft MSL engine started to run rough, applied carburetor heat. At 1800 ft MSL engine started to miss. Notified departure control, engine running rough, applied carburetor heat, requested return to metropolitan for landing. Level at 2000 ft MSL full power maintaining altitude. Departure gave me several heading changes. Departure handed me off to dtw tower 135.00. Engine still running rough. Dtw tower gave me several heading changes. Still maintaining altitude with full power. Dtw tower asked if I am declaring an emergency. I declined to declare an emergency. Dtw tower cleared me to land runway 21R. Maintained a high approach, landed without incident. Maintenance department is diagnosing engine problem.
