Narrative:

After departure from augusta, GA, en route to charlotte, nc, we were given a north heading to join the arrival into charlotte. A severe cold front was pushing through and a good line of thunderstorms was moving from west to east along our path at a very fast rate. The captain (PNF) asked departure for deviations. The controller did oblige us with just a 20 degree deviation. He seemed very concerned about having us on the charlotte arrival instead of being concerned about the WX. This frustrated the captain. During this time we had to deviate 10 degrees further right to avoid the WX. The captain was also concerned about icing and started checking out deice/anti-ice system. Before we could tell controller about our 10 degree heading change he came back and asked us our heading which was then 030 degrees. He seemed very agitated. He gave us a 350 degree heading to join arrival as soon as possible! I think the problem arose from lack of communication on both parties. I also think the controller had his priorities on turning us over to another facility at the proper location (on arrival) more so than helping us around WX. Corrective actions would be better communication between flight crew and ATC.

Title: FLC EXCEEDS WX DEV VECTOR HEADING AUTHS TO AVOID TSTMS.

Narrative: AFTER DEP FROM AUGUSTA, GA, ENRTE TO CHARLOTTE, NC, WE WERE GIVEN A N HEADING TO JOIN THE ARR INTO CHARLOTTE. A SEVERE COLD FRONT WAS PUSHING THROUGH AND A GOOD LINE OF TSTMS WAS MOVING FROM W TO E ALONG OUR PATH AT A VERY FAST RATE. THE CAPT (PNF) ASKED DEP FOR DEVS. THE CTLR DID OBLIGE US WITH JUST A 20 DEG DEV. HE SEEMED VERY CONCERNED ABOUT HAVING US ON THE CHARLOTTE ARR INSTEAD OF BEING CONCERNED ABOUT THE WX. THIS FRUSTRATED THE CAPT. DURING THIS TIME WE HAD TO DEVIATE 10 DEGS FURTHER R TO AVOID THE WX. THE CAPT WAS ALSO CONCERNED ABOUT ICING AND STARTED CHKING OUT DEICE/ANTI-ICE SYS. BEFORE WE COULD TELL CTLR ABOUT OUR 10 DEG HDG CHANGE HE CAME BACK AND ASKED US OUR HEADING WHICH WAS THEN 030 DEGS. HE SEEMED VERY AGITATED. HE GAVE US A 350 DEG HDG TO JOIN ARR ASAP! I THINK THE PROB AROSE FROM LACK OF COM ON BOTH PARTIES. I ALSO THINK THE CTLR HAD HIS PRIORITIES ON TURNING US OVER TO ANOTHER FACILITY AT THE PROPER LOCATION (ON ARR) MORE SO THAN HELPING US AROUND WX. CORRECTIVE ACTIONS WOULD BE BETTER COM BTWN FLC AND ATC.
