Narrative:
During training (on scheduled flight) of a new first officer the altimeters were set to the wrong setting when leaving 18000'. During my concern in making all the xings and speed restrictions we had put the departure station altimeter (30.25) instead of the lax ATIS pressure at 29.90. Controller called this to our attention when level at 10000' west of smo. I thanked him for his diligence.
