Narrative:
We were flying from tampa to jacksonville international. Jax WX was 2000 RVR. I noticed a NOTAM saying jax CAT ii not authorized. I questioned the center controller about the NOTAM. He said he would check with jax. When he got back with us he said they were landing in jax. We said 'so they are doing CAT ii's, he said yes. When we were turned over to approach he said the RVR was 2000' on runway 7 and asked us if that was sufficient for us. We said yes, since 1200 RVR is all that's needed for CAT ii. Upon arriving at the gate we went in to operations to question the NOTAM. We discovered that CAT ii apches have been not authorized for over a year. The CAT I minimums are 2400' RVR. Controllers should know the air carrier standard CAT I, ii, and III minimums for their airports. Also the ATIS should state 'no CAT ii's' when out of service.
