Narrative:
Aircraft was on initial climbout; 141 heading. Aircraft was given an initial climb to 10;000 ft. [Climbing] through roughly 8;000 ft the crew noticed an excessive discharge on the aircraft battery. The crew performed the recommended generator reset procedure; to no obvious effect. The aircraft then experienced a shed of the aircraft non-essential bus; and bus-tie. The crew opted to divert to [a nearby alternate]. The aircraft was given a descent and initial vectors for a visual [approach]. Once the aircraft joined the downwind; the crew detected a burning smell. At this time; the crew requested emergency ground personnel. The aircraft landed without incident; shutting down on [a] taxiway. The aircraft was evacuated.
