Narrative:
We were at level flight, cruise, navigating on 314 degree right out of nassau on BR22V. Missed turnoff at 62 DME to intercept 098 degree right inbound to mia VOR on 22V by approximately 4. First officer was PF. Captain initiated in-depth socio-political 'million dollar word' discussion. Gave first officer a book on 'finding the right mate,' and asked first officer to take notes, read specific paragraphs, etc. First officer should have put foot down but did not. Every so often first officer looked at her HSI and saw needle centered on 314 degree right out of nassau. Captain had 098 degree out of mia set up on his. For some reason his HSI/CDI was not centering readily. ZMA called, asked if we were on course. Captain looked at first officer's HSI, saw needle centered and replied, 'needle is centered; looks like we're on course.' ZMA called a second time. Captain totally confused at this point. First officer told captain to double-check his HSI setup. Answered ZMA (captain on radios), 'guess our #1 NAVAID is inoperative--we'll switch to another.' ZMA issued a no gyro turn. First officer informed captain that we should have intercepted 098 degree right. 'No,' said captain, 'we are just on a specified ATC issued heading to intercept 115 right out of fll.' first officer feel responsible as it was her leg to fly; however, highly unprofessional and a bit bizarre for captain to initiate a sexually oriented discussion/quiz/reading session while flying.

Title: TRACK DEVIATION FOR COMMUTER.
Narrative: WE WERE AT LEVEL FLT, CRUISE, NAVIGATING ON 314 DEG R OUT OF NASSAU ON BR22V. MISSED TURNOFF AT 62 DME TO INTERCEPT 098 DEG R INBND TO MIA VOR ON 22V BY APPROX 4. F/O WAS PF. CAPT INITIATED IN-DEPTH SOCIO-POLITICAL 'MILLION DOLLAR WORD' DISCUSSION. GAVE F/O A BOOK ON 'FINDING THE RIGHT MATE,' AND ASKED F/O TO TAKE NOTES, READ SPECIFIC PARAGRAPHS, ETC. F/O SHOULD HAVE PUT FOOT DOWN BUT DID NOT. EVERY SO OFTEN F/O LOOKED AT HER HSI AND SAW NEEDLE CENTERED ON 314 DEG R OUT OF NASSAU. CAPT HAD 098 DEG OUT OF MIA SET UP ON HIS. FOR SOME REASON HIS HSI/CDI WAS NOT CENTERING READILY. ZMA CALLED, ASKED IF WE WERE ON COURSE. CAPT LOOKED AT F/O'S HSI, SAW NEEDLE CENTERED AND REPLIED, 'NEEDLE IS CENTERED; LOOKS LIKE WE'RE ON COURSE.' ZMA CALLED A SECOND TIME. CAPT TOTALLY CONFUSED AT THIS POINT. F/O TOLD CAPT TO DOUBLE-CHK HIS HSI SETUP. ANSWERED ZMA (CAPT ON RADIOS), 'GUESS OUR #1 NAVAID IS INOP--WE'LL SWITCH TO ANOTHER.' ZMA ISSUED A NO GYRO TURN. F/O INFORMED CAPT THAT WE SHOULD HAVE INTERCEPTED 098 DEG R. 'NO,' SAID CAPT, 'WE ARE JUST ON A SPECIFIED ATC ISSUED HDG TO INTERCEPT 115 R OUT OF FLL.' F/O FEEL RESPONSIBLE AS IT WAS HER LEG TO FLY; HOWEVER, HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL AND A BIT BIZARRE FOR CAPT TO INITIATE A SEXUALLY ORIENTED DISCUSSION/QUIZ/READING SESSION WHILE FLYING.
