Narrative:
Heading 340 degree 10 northwest dfw VOR at 6000', we were cleared to 4000' plan ILS 18R. During descent to 4000' the clearance change to 17L, was blocked. We both thought we heard 'turn right 100 degree, descend to 4000', change runway to ILS 17L.' first officer acknowledged 4000' and questioned 100 degree heading, instant, almost over-riding response 'turn right 120 degree'. Since it again immediately followed our inquiry. I turned 120 degree. Approach control asked our heading. We said 120 degree. He said we took someone else's clearance. We said 'we acknowledged twice and questioned verification of turn'. He said turn left 080 degree, stop at 5000'. We stopped at 5000' and made a normal ILS. Approach controller not using full callsign, or was blocked. We questioned and followed his instructions. IFR, very congested radio, too much traffic and too many radio calls west/O proper idents. A very bad situation.

SINCE IT AGAIN IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED OUR INQUIRY. I TURNED 120 DEG. APCH CTL ASKED OUR HDG. WE SAID 120 DEG. HE SAID WE TOOK SOMEONE ELSE'S CLRNC. WE SAID 'WE ACKNOWLEDGED TWICE AND QUESTIONED VERIFICATION OF TURN'. HE SAID TURN LEFT 080 DEG, STOP AT 5000'. WE STOPPED AT 5000' AND MADE A NORMAL ILS. APCH CTLR NOT USING FULL CALLSIGN, OR WAS BLOCKED. WE QUESTIONED AND FOLLOWED HIS INSTRUCTIONS. IFR, VERY CONGESTED RADIO, TOO MUCH TFC AND TOO MANY RADIO CALLS W/O PROPER IDENTS.
