Narrative:
Air carrier X was cleared 'into position and hold 22L.' shortly thereafter, 'air carrier X, turn left heading 140, cleared for takeoff 22L, will call your turn.' I questioned the captain about ATC calling our turn and he agreed that was the clearance. I read back the clearance as I heard it. As we climbed out of 1200' AGL, we were told 'turn further left heading 110 degrees. Tighten your turn.' there was air carrier Y off of 14 that we were converging with. The clearance to tighten up our turn made me think that the original clearance may have been, 'cleared for takeoff 22L left turn 140 degree heading, will call further in the air.' this was our fifth leg of a very long day and we may have made the mistake. The frequency at ord was very congested, as well.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR X FAILED TO COMPLY WITH ATC CLRNC. PLT DEVIATION.
Narrative: ACR X WAS CLRED 'INTO POS AND HOLD 22L.' SHORTLY THEREAFTER, 'ACR X, TURN LEFT HDG 140, CLRED FOR TKOF 22L, WILL CALL YOUR TURN.' I QUESTIONED THE CAPT ABOUT ATC CALLING OUR TURN AND HE AGREED THAT WAS THE CLRNC. I READ BACK THE CLRNC AS I HEARD IT. AS WE CLBED OUT OF 1200' AGL, WE WERE TOLD 'TURN FURTHER LEFT HDG 110 DEGS. TIGHTEN YOUR TURN.' THERE WAS ACR Y OFF OF 14 THAT WE WERE CONVERGING WITH. THE CLRNC TO TIGHTEN UP OUR TURN MADE ME THINK THAT THE ORIGINAL CLRNC MAY HAVE BEEN, 'CLRED FOR TKOF 22L LEFT TURN 140 DEG HDG, WILL CALL FURTHER IN THE AIR.' THIS WAS OUR FIFTH LEG OF A VERY LONG DAY AND WE MAY HAVE MADE THE MISTAKE. THE FREQ AT ORD WAS VERY CONGESTED, AS WELL.
