Narrative:

At watsonville I called mry approach while taxiing out for departure on runway 19 to receive prefiled IFR clearance to sck. Departure acknowledged and issued clearance. Clearance was read back and acknowledged. Clearance contained no departure restrictions, clearance void times, hold for release or release times. Switched to local CTAF, announced departure, and departed. Switch to departure approximately 800'. Departure was surprised and advised that while there was no conflict that we needed to have called for a release clearance. My interpretation of the aim is that at an uncontrolled remote field that if the clearance is issued with no restrictions that departure is approved with no further clearance needed. If in doubt verify.

Narrative: AT WATSONVILLE I CALLED MRY APCH WHILE TAXIING OUT FOR DEP ON RWY 19 TO RECEIVE PREFILED IFR CLRNC TO SCK. DEP ACKNOWLEDGED AND ISSUED CLRNC. CLRNC WAS READ BACK AND ACKNOWLEDGED. CLRNC CONTAINED NO DEP RESTRICTIONS, CLRNC VOID TIMES, HOLD FOR RELEASE OR RELEASE TIMES. SWITCHED TO LCL CTAF, ANNOUNCED DEP, AND DEPARTED. SWITCH TO DEP APPROX 800'. DEP WAS SURPRISED AND ADVISED THAT WHILE THERE WAS NO CONFLICT THAT WE NEEDED TO HAVE CALLED FOR A RELEASE CLRNC.
