Narrative:

After holding short of a parallel taxiway, we were told to follow another air carrier tri-jet. That tri-jet passed off our left, xed an active runway and taxied to the departing runway 15. We followed as told to do so. Our prior position (when holding short) put us less than 300' from the active landing runway. After following the other aircraft across the runway, ground control advised that we were not cleared across the runway. We reminded him that we were told to follow the tri-jet. He agreed, but noted he never cleared us across. We expressed our interpretation. The lesson I've learned is not to take controllers literally. When given a clearance to follow another aircraft, question the controller as to what the actual clearance is.

Title: ACR LGT IS INSTRUCTED TO FOLLOW WDB ON TXWY AHEAD AND AFTER CROSSING AN ACTIVE RWY WDB IS INFORMED THAT THEY CROSSED WITHOUT CLRNC TO DO SO.

Narrative: AFTER HOLDING SHORT OF A PARALLEL TXWY, WE WERE TOLD TO FOLLOW ANOTHER ACR TRI-JET. THAT TRI-JET PASSED OFF OUR L, XED AN ACTIVE RWY AND TAXIED TO THE DEPARTING RWY 15. WE FOLLOWED AS TOLD TO DO SO. OUR PRIOR POS (WHEN HOLDING SHORT) PUT US LESS THAN 300' FROM THE ACTIVE LNDG RWY. AFTER FOLLOWING THE OTHER ACFT ACROSS THE RWY, GND CTL ADVISED THAT WE WERE NOT CLRED ACROSS THE RWY. WE REMINDED HIM THAT WE WERE TOLD TO FOLLOW THE TRI-JET. HE AGREED, BUT NOTED HE NEVER CLRED US ACROSS. WE EXPRESSED OUR INTERPRETATION. THE LESSON I'VE LEARNED IS NOT TO TAKE CTLRS LITERALLY. WHEN GIVEN A CLRNC TO FOLLOW ANOTHER ACFT, QUESTION THE CTLR AS TO WHAT THE ACTUAL CLRNC IS.
