Narrative:
I departed logan, ut, and flew south through the pass toward ogden, ut. After clearing the mountains I descended to 7500' MSL along the mountains on the east side of the slc TCA in the area marked 100/90. When I was 5 mi south of slc, I saw clouds at my elevation so I turned back north and called slc approach to request clearance to climb through the TCA to 10500' to clear the clouds and maintain VFR. Upon reaching a controller, he asked if I was aware that I had been flying in the TCA west/O clearance. I answered that I did not believe that I was in the TCA as my chart showed that 7500' MSL was below the TCA. He restated his belief that I was in the TCA west/O clearance and I said that if I was, then my chart was faulty. The controller then had me contact another controller who approved my request to climb and turn back south. The second controller stayed with me until clear of the TCA (south). Due to the heading of 170 degree, I climbed to 9500' MSL rather than 10500' for proper VFR flight.

Title: REPORTER IS ALLEGED TO HAVE STRAYED INTO THE SLC TCA.
Narrative: I DEPARTED LOGAN, UT, AND FLEW S THROUGH THE PASS TOWARD OGDEN, UT. AFTER CLRING THE MOUNTAINS I DSNDED TO 7500' MSL ALONG THE MOUNTAINS ON THE E SIDE OF THE SLC TCA IN THE AREA MARKED 100/90. WHEN I WAS 5 MI S OF SLC, I SAW CLOUDS AT MY ELEVATION SO I TURNED BACK N AND CALLED SLC APCH TO REQUEST CLRNC TO CLB THROUGH THE TCA TO 10500' TO CLR THE CLOUDS AND MAINTAIN VFR. UPON REACHING A CTLR, HE ASKED IF I WAS AWARE THAT I HAD BEEN FLYING IN THE TCA W/O CLRNC. I ANSWERED THAT I DID NOT BELIEVE THAT I WAS IN THE TCA AS MY CHART SHOWED THAT 7500' MSL WAS BELOW THE TCA. HE RESTATED HIS BELIEF THAT I WAS IN THE TCA W/O CLRNC AND I SAID THAT IF I WAS, THEN MY CHART WAS FAULTY. THE CTLR THEN HAD ME CONTACT ANOTHER CTLR WHO APPROVED MY REQUEST TO CLB AND TURN BACK S. THE SECOND CTLR STAYED WITH ME UNTIL CLR OF THE TCA (SOUTH). DUE TO THE HDG OF 170 DEG, I CLBED TO 9500' MSL RATHER THAN 10500' FOR PROPER VFR FLT.
