Narrative:
We left the gate at hnl after a short delay for an air carrier Y flight to pass behind us. It was a few mins ahead of us on the way to the reef runway (8R), and I believe it was a widebody transport, although we never saw it. As we neared the departure runway, after the long 3 mi taxi, we noticed what looked like a large aircraft taxiing back towards us on the 8R parallel taxiway but at the far end, so we couldn't identify it, and we wondered if air carrier Y had aborted. At about this time we were cleared to tower frequency, 118.3, which we noticed was also departure control frequency. We were cleared for takeoff, and as we rolled down the runway, at about 120 KTS, we could see many large chunks of tire pieces all around us on the runway. There were so many, that we were surprised that none went into our engines. After takeoff, we questioned the tower, and were told that he didn't know there was any rubber on the runway. We advised him that it was a very dangerous situation, and that the runway should be closed and swept, and that air carrier Y ought to be advised to let following aircraft know when they've contaminated the runway. 8 hours later, when we made our next landing, we had the aircraft inspected, with no apparent damage. We were lucky!

Title: ACR WDB MADE A NIGHT TKOF FROM HNL WITH LARGE PIECES OF RUBBER FROM A PREVIOUS ABORT STILL ON THE RWY.
Narrative: WE LEFT THE GATE AT HNL AFTER A SHORT DELAY FOR AN ACR Y FLT TO PASS BEHIND US. IT WAS A FEW MINS AHEAD OF US ON THE WAY TO THE REEF RWY (8R), AND I BELIEVE IT WAS A WDB, ALTHOUGH WE NEVER SAW IT. AS WE NEARED THE DEP RWY, AFTER THE LONG 3 MI TAXI, WE NOTICED WHAT LOOKED LIKE A LARGE ACFT TAXIING BACK TOWARDS US ON THE 8R PARALLEL TXWY BUT AT THE FAR END, SO WE COULDN'T IDENT IT, AND WE WONDERED IF ACR Y HAD ABORTED. AT ABOUT THIS TIME WE WERE CLRED TO TWR FREQ, 118.3, WHICH WE NOTICED WAS ALSO DEP CTL FREQ. WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF, AND AS WE ROLLED DOWN THE RWY, AT ABOUT 120 KTS, WE COULD SEE MANY LARGE CHUNKS OF TIRE PIECES ALL AROUND US ON THE RWY. THERE WERE SO MANY, THAT WE WERE SURPRISED THAT NONE WENT INTO OUR ENGS. AFTER TKOF, WE QUESTIONED THE TWR, AND WERE TOLD THAT HE DIDN'T KNOW THERE WAS ANY RUBBER ON THE RWY. WE ADVISED HIM THAT IT WAS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION, AND THAT THE RWY SHOULD BE CLOSED AND SWEPT, AND THAT ACR Y OUGHT TO BE ADVISED TO LET FOLLOWING ACFT KNOW WHEN THEY'VE CONTAMINATED THE RWY. 8 HRS LATER, WHEN WE MADE OUR NEXT LNDG, WE HAD THE ACFT INSPECTED, WITH NO APPARENT DAMAGE. WE WERE LUCKY!
