Narrative:
We were cleared by J34 alphe to J70. We forgot to intercept J70 at alphe and did not discover our error until we were over carleton VOR. We informed center and they reclred us. We had flown over 8 hours in a 12 hour duty period. We were in moderate turbulence and trying to avoid thunderstorms on radar. The route was reassigned to us just prior to departing ord. We looked at the route before departure, but it was not our usual routing. We were very tired and we simply goofed!
