Narrative:
Climbing out of bwi in an large transport aircraft at approximately xx:22Z on tue/6/90 a widebody transport aircraft passed directly under us heading northeast. The captain ask ATC what the altitude of that aircraft was and ATC reply was 17000'. Our altitude was approximately 17400'. The captain then told ATC 'that was a little close', ATC reply was 'affirmative'. The remainder of the climb was uneventful. Lack of coordination between departure ATC and center ATC caused a lack of required clearance of the two aircraft. Supplemental information from acn 149629. Widebody transport passed directly under us heading northeast into the sun.

Narrative: CLBING OUT OF BWI IN AN LGT ACFT AT APPROX XX:22Z ON TUE/6/90 A WDB ACFT PASSED DIRECTLY UNDER US HDG NE. THE CAPT ASK ATC WHAT THE ALT OF THAT ACFT WAS AND ATC REPLY WAS 17000'. OUR ALT WAS APPROX 17400'. THE CAPT THEN TOLD ATC 'THAT WAS A LITTLE CLOSE', ATC REPLY WAS 'AFFIRMATIVE'. THE REMAINDER OF THE CLB WAS UNEVENTFUL. LACK OF COORD BTWN DEP ATC AND CTR ATC CAUSED A LACK OF REQUIRED CLRNC OF THE TWO ACFT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 149629. WDB PASSED DIRECTLY UNDER US HDG NE INTO THE SUN.
