Narrative:
On departure from omaha's eppley airport, I was cleared to taxi to runway 17 from the FBO via B3. At B3 there is a confusing intersection of the taxiway, runway 14L, and runway 17. I thought that the taxiway markings showing where I should hold short applied to runway 14L and that I would find another set that applied to runway 17. Since I had been cleared to runway 17, I taxied past these markings, only to find that there was no other set and I was approaching runway 17. I stopped short of runway 17, but I was closer to it than I should have been. I believe a sign at that location indicating that the markings apply to both runway 14L and runway 17 would help prevent such problems. Callback conversation revealed the following information. After I had taxied past the hold line tower controller advised me that was the hold position for runway 17. I did not see the problem as he had no traffic for runway 17 and it is not readily apparent why the hold line could not be at the end of taxiway N1. It would seem prudent for the tower controller to advise those unfamiliar with his airport that the hold line is several hundred yards short of the end of the taxiway.

Title: PLT OF SMA TAXIED PAST HOLD LINE ON TXWY L2 THINKING IT WAS HOLD POSITION FOR RWY 14 WHEN HE WAS CLEARED TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 17.
Narrative: ON DEP FROM OMAHA'S EPPLEY ARPT, I WAS CLRED TO TAXI TO RWY 17 FROM THE FBO VIA B3. AT B3 THERE IS A CONFUSING INTXN OF THE TXWY, RWY 14L, AND RWY 17. I THOUGHT THAT THE TXWY MARKINGS SHOWING WHERE I SHOULD HOLD SHORT APPLIED TO RWY 14L AND THAT I WOULD FIND ANOTHER SET THAT APPLIED TO RWY 17. SINCE I HAD BEEN CLRED TO RWY 17, I TAXIED PAST THESE MARKINGS, ONLY TO FIND THAT THERE WAS NO OTHER SET AND I WAS APCHING RWY 17. I STOPPED SHORT OF RWY 17, BUT I WAS CLOSER TO IT THAN I SHOULD HAVE BEEN. I BELIEVE A SIGN AT THAT LOCATION INDICATING THAT THE MARKINGS APPLY TO BOTH RWY 14L AND RWY 17 WOULD HELP PREVENT SUCH PROBS. CALLBACK CONVERSATION REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO. AFTER I HAD TAXIED PAST THE HOLD LINE TWR CTLR ADVISED ME THAT WAS THE HOLD POS FOR RWY 17. I DID NOT SEE THE PROB AS HE HAD NO TFC FOR RWY 17 AND IT IS NOT READILY APPARENT WHY THE HOLD LINE COULD NOT BE AT THE END OF TXWY N1. IT WOULD SEEM PRUDENT FOR THE TWR CTLR TO ADVISE THOSE UNFAMILIAR WITH HIS ARPT THAT THE HOLD LINE IS SEVERAL HUNDRED YARDS SHORT OF THE END OF THE TXWY.
