Narrative:
Departing bellingham airport (bellingham, wa) the following incident took place. For my VFR departure, bellingham tower advised me to take to runway 34. I was granted a left downwind departure to the south. As this departure would take me out over bellingham bay, I decided to climb to 2000' MSL. As I leveled off at 2000', I saw for the first time an mdt in landing confign coming nearly straight at me. I rolled my aircraft into a 90 degree bank to the right to avoid him. He made no movement continued his straight-in approach to runway 34. Had I not taken this action, we might have come as close as 100' from each other. We missed each other approximately 500'. I cut my flight short, and did not proceed to my destination of friday harbor, wa. I flew around for 15 mins to calm down, and returned to bellingham airport. My intention to talk with the tower operator as I could not recall receiving any calls related to the incoming traffic, or the mdt receiving any calls regarding my south departure. I did not hear calls from another small aircraft making a touch and go landing. On landing the tower operator requested that I call the tower on the telephone, or visit him. I elected to go to the tower. He asked me what had taken place, as the small transport pilot had contacted him. We talked about the dangers of all arrs and departures now being made on the west side of the airport. On the 5TH of july, I noted that the tower operator was now requesting south departures to stay west of runway centerline until clear of air traffic area. The tower operator said the report would go no further. I have elected to report the incident as it was an airliner.

Title: NMAC AS SMA PLT ALLOWS ACFT TO STRAY INTO APCH PATH OF AN INBOUND MDT ON FINAL APCH. SMA WAS ON A DEP AFTER MAKING A 180 DEGREE TURN AFTER TKOF.
Narrative: DEPARTING BELLINGHAM ARPT (BELLINGHAM, WA) THE FOLLOWING INCIDENT TOOK PLACE. FOR MY VFR DEP, BELLINGHAM TWR ADVISED ME TO TAKE TO RWY 34. I WAS GRANTED A L DOWNWIND DEP TO THE S. AS THIS DEP WOULD TAKE ME OUT OVER BELLINGHAM BAY, I DECIDED TO CLB TO 2000' MSL. AS I LEVELED OFF AT 2000', I SAW FOR THE FIRST TIME AN MDT IN LNDG CONFIGN COMING NEARLY STRAIGHT AT ME. I ROLLED MY ACFT INTO A 90 DEG BANK TO THE R TO AVOID HIM. HE MADE NO MOVEMENT CONTINUED HIS STRAIGHT-IN APCH TO RWY 34. HAD I NOT TAKEN THIS ACTION, WE MIGHT HAVE COME AS CLOSE AS 100' FROM EACH OTHER. WE MISSED EACH OTHER APPROX 500'. I CUT MY FLT SHORT, AND DID NOT PROCEED TO MY DEST OF FRIDAY HARBOR, WA. I FLEW AROUND FOR 15 MINS TO CALM DOWN, AND RETURNED TO BELLINGHAM ARPT. MY INTENTION TO TALK WITH THE TWR OPERATOR AS I COULD NOT RECALL RECEIVING ANY CALLS RELATED TO THE INCOMING TFC, OR THE MDT RECEIVING ANY CALLS REGARDING MY S DEP. I DID NOT HEAR CALLS FROM ANOTHER SMA MAKING A TOUCH AND GO LNDG. ON LNDG THE TWR OPERATOR REQUESTED THAT I CALL THE TWR ON THE TELEPHONE, OR VISIT HIM. I ELECTED TO GO TO THE TWR. HE ASKED ME WHAT HAD TAKEN PLACE, AS THE SMT PLT HAD CONTACTED HIM. WE TALKED ABOUT THE DANGERS OF ALL ARRS AND DEPS NOW BEING MADE ON THE W SIDE OF THE ARPT. ON THE 5TH OF JULY, I NOTED THAT THE TWR OPERATOR WAS NOW REQUESTING S DEPS TO STAY W OF RWY CTRLINE UNTIL CLR OF AIR TFC AREA. THE TWR OPERATOR SAID THE RPT WOULD GO NO FURTHER. I HAVE ELECTED TO RPT THE INCIDENT AS IT WAS AN AIRLINER.
