Narrative:
Taxiing out of the ramp area at rochester, ny, we were cleared to taxi to runway 22. We took taxiway delta which had an ILS hold line on it. Since it was VFR I xed it not realizing that it put me in the approach path of runway 22 about 200' from the runway end. It's a rather difficult situation to describe since the airport layout on the chart does not show this taxiway and markings as they really are. As I got closer to the approach end of runway 22, I again realized that I was already inside the hold short line and had to recross it to remain clear of the runway. I have noticed this situation at other airports where an ILS hold line is really a runway hold short line as well. It's a confusing situation at best and could lead to a violation or at worst an accident. Supplemental information from acn 151687. Pilot utilized taxiway 'D' to avoid an large transport on gate X that made ramp clearance tight. Airport diagram in commercial charts did not depict this in any detail.

Title: REPORTER CONCERNED ABOUT CROSSING INTO RWY ENVIRONMENT WHILE TAXIING AT ROC.

AS I GOT CLOSER TO THE APCH END OF RWY 22, I AGAIN REALIZED THAT I WAS ALREADY INSIDE THE HOLD SHORT LINE AND HAD TO RECROSS IT TO REMAIN CLR OF THE RWY. I HAVE NOTICED THIS SITUATION AT OTHER ARPTS WHERE AN ILS HOLD LINE IS REALLY A RWY HOLD SHORT LINE AS WELL. IT'S A CONFUSING SITUATION AT BEST AND COULD LEAD TO A VIOLATION OR AT WORST AN ACCIDENT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 151687. PLT UTILIZED TXWY 'D' TO AVOID AN LGT ON GATE X THAT MADE RAMP CLRNC TIGHT. ARPT DIAGRAM IN COMMERCIAL CHARTS DID NOT DEPICT THIS IN ANY DETAIL.
