Narrative:
After advising denver center gunnison in sight; cleared for visual approach to runway 24 (no wind). Descended in VMC condition to the airport and announced our position; 15 miles southeast of airport on 122.70. A [regional jet] was getting a clearance from center gunnison to denver. Same flight then announced their intentions (taking off on runway 6). We then announced our position as a modified left base to runway 24. Next broadcast from [regional jet] was he was departing runway 6 utilizing an obstacle procedure. We then called a 3 mile finale runway 24 and not having the [regional jet] in sight; as a precaution turned slight right off final. This would give us the option for when [regional jet] insight to continue approach to runway 24 or setting up for landing opposite direction (downwind 06). Not sure if the obstacle procedure was because of us or the mountains around the gunnison airport either way got to see a lot of underside of an [regional jet]; can't imagine being a passenger on that flight.I believe the [regional jet] created a totally unnecessary troubling and unsafe situation by taking off into landing traffic.
