Narrative:
The main point I want to get across is the errors which can develop with a check airman in jumpseat. Our initial approach into dut was NDB a from overhead we had field in sight and were then cleared for contact approach, while maneuvering from left traffic for runway 30 it became apparent scattered fog would present normal approach and landing. Check airman in jumpseat giving me my line check into dut begins telling me to have plenty of room to maneuver under the fog over the bay to the west for landing runway 12. He keeps coaching me under the fog by the time I get under the fog we are ot 300' over the water maneuvering downwind base final landing was operations normal except for our circling way below minimums. I have 5 yrs of experience landing at dut and did not need any coaching. By doing that the check airman talked me into doing something I would not have otherwise done, circle below minimums. Jumpseat rider check airman or not should not coach or help out an experienced captain. Let him make his own decisions, that's how he got where he is at.

OUR INITIAL APCH INTO DUT WAS NDB A FROM OVERHEAD WE HAD FIELD IN SIGHT AND WERE THEN CLRED FOR CONTACT APCH, WHILE MANEUVERING FROM L TFC FOR RWY 30 IT BECAME APPARENT SCATTERED FOG WOULD PRESENT NORMAL APCH AND LNDG. CHK AIRMAN IN JUMPSEAT GIVING ME MY LINE CHK INTO DUT BEGINS TELLING ME TO HAVE PLENTY OF ROOM TO MANEUVER UNDER THE FOG OVER THE BAY TO THE W FOR LNDG RWY 12. HE KEEPS COACHING ME UNDER THE FOG BY THE TIME I GET UNDER THE FOG WE ARE OT 300' OVER THE WATER MANEUVERING DOWNWIND BASE FINAL LNDG WAS OPS NORMAL EXCEPT FOR OUR CIRCLING WAY BELOW MINIMUMS. I HAVE 5 YRS OF EXPERIENCE LNDG AT DUT AND DID NOT NEED ANY COACHING. BY DOING THAT THE CHK AIRMAN TALKED ME INTO DOING SOMETHING I WOULD NOT HAVE OTHERWISE DONE, CIRCLE BELOW MINIMUMS. JUMPSEAT RIDER CHK AIRMAN OR NOT SHOULD NOT COACH OR HELP OUT AN EXPERIENCED CAPT. LET HIM MAKE HIS OWN DECISIONS, THAT'S HOW HE GOT WHERE HE IS AT.
