Narrative:
During descent on a modified left base for 08L at ZZZ; our current and qualified jumpseater called to our attention the fluctuating left engine vibration in the yellow band. My first officer ran the rr (rolls-royce) engine vibration checklist which directed a shutdown of the affected engine. I tasked with getting the performance data for our landing and with contacting our dispatcher; but we were so close to landing the attempt to contact was unsuccessful. We [advised] the tower and asked for the equipment to be standing by. An uneventful landing was accomplished on the longer runway 08R. We asked for a fire truck to follow us to parking.
