Narrative:
We were flying the flipr 3 SID, daggett transition on departure from lax. For unknown reason, the FMC did not program or fly the transition part of the SID between seal beach VORTAC and the daggett VORTAC, instead we were flying direct from seal beach VORTAC to daggett VORTAC (this stuff has happened before). Center told us were off course about 10 mi. We found the problem. I disconnected the autoplt, went back to raw data and made the necessary course correction. There did not appear to be any urgency in the controller so I believe there as no conflict with traffic. Problem: I put too much faith and reliance on gee-wiz (FMC, etc) INS and not backing up with raw data! Supplemental information from acn 154363: after several changes on vectors and direct clrncs the FMC was reprogrammed several times and in the process a dogleg in the departure was inadvertently dropped and showed a direct route. Talking to ZLA on climb out they advised we were east of course. I believe the late hour (2 am local body time) and changes in departure vectors contributed error.

Title: ADVANCED COCKPIT ACR MLG EXPERIENCES TRACK DEVIATION ON THE FLIPR 3 SID FROM LAX.
Narrative: WE WERE FLYING THE FLIPR 3 SID, DAGGETT TRANSITION ON DEP FROM LAX. FOR UNKNOWN REASON, THE FMC DID NOT PROGRAM OR FLY THE TRANSITION PART OF THE SID BTWN SEAL BEACH VORTAC AND THE DAGGETT VORTAC, INSTEAD WE WERE FLYING DIRECT FROM SEAL BEACH VORTAC TO DAGGETT VORTAC (THIS STUFF HAS HAPPENED BEFORE). CENTER TOLD US WERE OFF COURSE ABOUT 10 MI. WE FOUND THE PROB. I DISCONNECTED THE AUTOPLT, WENT BACK TO RAW DATA AND MADE THE NECESSARY COURSE CORRECTION. THERE DID NOT APPEAR TO BE ANY URGENCY IN THE CTLR SO I BELIEVE THERE AS NO CONFLICT WITH TFC. PROB: I PUT TOO MUCH FAITH AND RELIANCE ON GEE-WIZ (FMC, ETC) INS AND NOT BACKING UP WITH RAW DATA! SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 154363: AFTER SEVERAL CHANGES ON VECTORS AND DIRECT CLRNCS THE FMC WAS REPROGRAMMED SEVERAL TIMES AND IN THE PROCESS A DOGLEG IN THE DEP WAS INADVERTENTLY DROPPED AND SHOWED A DIRECT RTE. TALKING TO ZLA ON CLBOUT THEY ADVISED WE WERE E OF COURSE. I BELIEVE THE LATE HR (2 AM LCL BODY TIME) AND CHANGES IN DEP VECTORS CONTRIBUTED ERROR.
