Narrative:
We had received our ATC clearance before engine start on ground control (no clearance delivery). During the loading of passengers the volume on the radio was accidentally turned down. After engine start and checklist completed a call was made to ground control, I noticed the volume was down and as I turned the volume up, I heard the transmission 'to 28.' I acknowledged the clearance. Normal taxi to runway 28 is by runway 5. Since our aircraft is too heavy for the taxiway that runs along runway 5, our normal taxi is via runway 5. No 'hold short of runway 5' was heard so we proceeded as usual. As we turned on runway 5 (140 degree from taxiway), we saw an small aircraft taxiing down runway. The small aircraft then made a 180 degree and we continued up runway 5. I called ground control again, no answer, so we switched radios and finally got ground control. They said it was the first time they heard from us since our clearance call. We found out that the clearance was for another aircraft. Ground control never heard our acknowledgement, and since they don't reply to acknowledgements we assumed all was normal. Later in trip we found that faulty microphone was not letting all xmissions go through. Problem was written up and microphone was replaced. From now on, all readbacks will be with a/north number at the end, and we will make sure all xmissions are for correct airplane.

Title: CORP FLT CREW TAXIS WITHOUT CONTACT WITH GND CTL.
Narrative: WE HAD RECEIVED OUR ATC CLRNC BEFORE ENG START ON GND CTL (NO CLRNC DELIVERY). DURING THE LOADING OF PAXS THE VOLUME ON THE RADIO WAS ACCIDENTALLY TURNED DOWN. AFTER ENGINE START AND CHKLIST COMPLETED A CALL WAS MADE TO GND CTL, I NOTICED THE VOLUME WAS DOWN AND AS I TURNED THE VOLUME UP, I HEARD THE XMISSION 'TO 28.' I ACKNOWLEDGED THE CLRNC. NORMAL TAXI TO RWY 28 IS BY RWY 5. SINCE OUR ACFT IS TOO HVY FOR THE TXWY THAT RUNS ALONG RWY 5, OUR NORMAL TAXI IS VIA RWY 5. NO 'HOLD SHORT OF RWY 5' WAS HEARD SO WE PROCEEDED AS USUAL. AS WE TURNED ON RWY 5 (140 DEG FROM TXWY), WE SAW AN SMA TAXIING DOWN RWY. THE SMA THEN MADE A 180 DEG AND WE CONTINUED UP RWY 5. I CALLED GND CTL AGAIN, NO ANSWER, SO WE SWITCHED RADIOS AND FINALLY GOT GND CTL. THEY SAID IT WAS THE FIRST TIME THEY HEARD FROM US SINCE OUR CLRNC CALL. WE FOUND OUT THAT THE CLRNC WAS FOR ANOTHER ACFT. GND CTL NEVER HEARD OUR ACKNOWLEDGEMENT, AND SINCE THEY DON'T REPLY TO ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS WE ASSUMED ALL WAS NORMAL. LATER IN TRIP WE FOUND THAT FAULTY MICROPHONE WAS NOT LETTING ALL XMISSIONS GO THROUGH. PROB WAS WRITTEN UP AND MICROPHONE WAS REPLACED. FROM NOW ON, ALL READBACKS WILL BE WITH A/N NUMBER AT THE END, AND WE WILL MAKE SURE ALL XMISSIONS ARE FOR CORRECT AIRPLANE.
