Narrative:
Cruise at 16;000 feet MSL and encountered severe turbulence and upset. I gained control of the aircraft at about 13;200 feet and recovered to our assigned altitude of 16;000 feet. Center acknowledged they showed us at a lower than assigned altitude. I responded with the information of the upset and we were climbing back to our assigned altitude of 16;000 feet and center responded no problem.
