Narrative:
On downwind; prior to skyler we were cleared RNAV (Y) 26R approach. We had scrambled to install it when asked by approach to set up for that (around domno). The FMC showed the vector out of skler so past skler we went direct drkar and had the magenta line for the turn to soopr. We were not in heading sel and I'm pretty sure we weren't in cws right; either. Anyway; the jet didn't start the turn and I went to heading sel and started the turn manually. About that time approach asked if we were turning - we were close to a mile outside the arc; and well outside the .11 rnp. It sure looked like everything was set up LNAV and VNAV pth...don't know what we did wrong.
