Narrative:
I regret to report that; during a training flight; my student and I landed on a runway at cpt that was closed by NOTAM. The training flight was to focus on air work and ground reference maneuvers. After completing the air work and ground reference maneuvers; it was determined that cpt was the closest uncontrolled airport to simulate an engine out scenario and practice landings. I had not planned on going to this airport prior to the flight. It just was the nearest airport to use upon completion of the maneuvers. There was no physical indication that the runway was closed at the airport or reported on the automated weather. It wasn't until we were back at our departure airport with signal on my ipad that I realized the runway we used was closed by NOTAM when it showed up on foreflight.all the airports around our training area rarely have notams issued and these were not verified prior to flight due to time restraints for training and complacency with the airport always being open. There were other planes that landed at cpt during that time and no one notified us of an infraction. There was no malicious intent or danger to people or property on the ground. It was a stupid mistake and lapse in judgment not to make sure all applicable notams were known prior. In the future; I will ensure all surrounding airport notams are reviewed in the event I choose one to practice landings again.
